Karen Marston hosted Muse Fuse, NURTUREart Non-Profit’s monthly art salon, from 2002 through 2013—97 events over eleven years. She joined the board of this grassroots non-profit in 2003, in it’s nascent phase. Karen was instrumental in the opening of the first NURTUREart Gallery that year, project managed the development of the online registry of artists and curators and served as President for ten years, ushering in a continuing period of exciting expansion for the organization.

Muse Fuse was started to give NURTUREart’s registry artists an opportunity to meet and form a community. It has since become a popular forum for the exchange of ideas and pooling of resources, providing professional development, support, and networking. Meetings feature an impressive variety of notable guest speakers from the forefront of the art world. Speakers have included: Martha Schwendener, Omar Lopez-Chahoud, Mira Schor, Edward Winkleman and Ursula von Rydingsvard, to name just a few that have visited over the years.

Muse Fuse is only one of several excellent programs offered by NURTUREart including the Artists and Curators Registry featuring hundreds of emerging artists and independent curators, the NURTUREart Gallery, now located in the heart of the burgeoning Bushwick art scene, presenting a full season of solo shows of emerging artists and group exhibitions by emerging curators selected by an annual open call, and an Education Outreach program bringing artists and curators into local schools and their students into galleries and studios.
